Manhattan-based BBDO says it never employed terror attack suspect James W. von Brunn, despite the man’s claims he worked for the ad agency as a copywriter and assistant art director.
Von Brunn opened fire in the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington, DC yesterday, killing a security guard. He was charged in federal court today on first degree murder and firearms violations.
A spokesperson for BBDO said, “We have no record of James von Brunn working at BBDO.”
Von Brunn also claims to be a member of Mensa, a World War II veteran, and a film and TV producer. He is in fact a convicted felon, conspiracy theorist and anti-Semite, who tried to perform a “citizen’s arrest” on members of the Federal Reserve Board.
On his web site, he briefly describes working at BBDO, and proudly relates a story about assaulting a fellow agency employee while riding the elevator.
BBDO is a worldwide advertising agency network, with its headquarters in New York. It has 17,200 employees in 287 offices in 77 countries. BBDO was named Agency of the Year in 2005 by ADWEEK, Advertising Age, and Campaign Magazine.
